Saturday of the Twenty-SeventhWeek in Ordinary Time

Our blessedness

While he was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” Lk 11,27-28

When in the morning, still sleepy, we sit at the table being faced with steaming cups of cafe au lait, our agenda is full of commitments and of people to be met. It is not an empty page, it is already full, but of events which have yet to be lived. It reminds us of the design on the cloth of the embroideries, which by the evening will be transformed into a beautiful embroidery. Before beginning our daily work, this habit of listening the gospel prepares to us the mind, the heart, the mouth and the fingers to make a beautiful embroidery. It is the creative act in the world, which is renewed every day and which God has placed in our hands to have us making a beautiful, good and holy thing. It all depends on us, but it is difficult to make a bad job if in the morning we open our minds and hearts to this word which enlightens us and guides us. Let’s listen to some verses of the Psalm 103: it celebrates the wonderful event of every day when the sun rises in the morning and is renewed the creative act of God who, for his goodness, also requests to the man to participate.“Bless the Lord, my soul! Lord, my God, you are great indeed! You are clothed with majesty and glory, robed in light as with a cloak. You spread out the heavens like a tent; you raised your palace upon the waters. You make the clouds your chariot; you travel on the wings of the wind….They rushed up the mountains, down the valleys to the place you had fixed for them….You made springs flow into channels that wind among the mountains. They give drink to every beast of the field; here wild asses quench their thirst. Beside them the birds of heaven nest; among the branches they sing. You water the mountains from your palace; by your labor the earth abounds. You raise grass for the cattle and plants for our beasts of burden. You bring bread from the earth, and wine to gladden our hearts, Oil to make our faces gleam, food to build our strength….You bring darkness and night falls, then all the beasts of the forest roam abroad…. When the sun rises, they steal away and rest in their dens. People go forth to their work, to their labor till evening falls”. We are this man, who goes every morning to his work, to carry on his labor until the evening, because, with our embroidery design, we become a part of the creative act of God.
